* Time Magazine calls him the "Pastor-in-Chief." OOPS! You mean the Bible has a proof-text justifying Genocide? What about Drones?

(Maybe Josh can find a Proof-Text for Drones)

Joshue Dubois, ("Pastor-in-Chief") has published a book of  365 inspirational verses he delivered to President Obama each day of a year in order to care for the president's  "spiritual well being".

He said on tonight's PBS News Hour that one of the most difficult assignments from the President was to find a verse for "the genocide in Darfur."

I hope he didn't choose the Bible as a source.

"You can prove anything you want to from the Bible . There's even a proof-text for genocide in Deuteronomy

These are not the words of a skeptic but of  a great academic and the author of the best-selling biography of Martin Luther, Here I Stand (Abingdon Press:1.2 million copies sold): No less an authority than the the great Yale University  Titus Street Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Roland H. Bainton.

They were told said to me face to face over lunch in the Yale Divinity School refectory in 1977 when I was questioning Dr. Bainton on the authority of the Bible.

King James Version
Deuteronomy 20:17

But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:
